The Member of Parliament (MP) for Anyaa Sowotuom, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, is proposing a significant change to the District Level Elections (DLEs) by suggesting that they be conducted on the same day as the general elections, specifically on 7th December.
He believes that merging these elections would help address the consistently low voter turnout witnessed during the assembly elections.
Dr. Adomako Kissi’s proposal is motivated by the observed challenges of low voter participation in the District Level Elections, a concern that has persisted across various electoral cycles.
Despite suggestions for declaring the day of assembly elections a holiday, he contends that this alone may not be sufficient to significantly boost voter turnout.
Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi aims to create synergy and increase public interest in local governance, leveraging the higher voter engagement traditionally associated with general elections.
