The District Level Elections (DLEs) have concluded, with over 66,000 individuals vying for assembly and unit committee positions in the polls.
According to statistics from the Electoral Commission, there were 18,755 assembly member candidates and 47,502 unit committee member candidates, totaling 66,257 candidates participating in the electoral competition across 216 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
However, reports from our scattered reporters across the country indicate lhat the elections were characterized by low attendance, and there were significant delays in the start of the exercise at many centers.
In the Akweley Electoral area in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region, for example, the commencement of the election was delayed and began at 11:45 am.
Voters expressed frustration, stating that they had been at the polling center since 5 am with no communication regarding the reasons for the delay.
Some Assembly member aspirants, disheartened by the prolonged process, also voiced concerns, suggesting that they believed there might have been sabotage in the system.
