The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is urging Ghanaians to actively engage in the upcoming district-level elections scheduled for Tuesday, December 19. The party underscores the importance of this exercise in the country’s governance processes, emphasizing its crucial role in local and decentralization governance.
In a press release issued on Monday, December 18, and endorsed by the National Chairman of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the NDC commits to abolishing the Capping and Alignment policy. This initiative aims to unlock the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) if the party secures victory in the 2024 general elections.
The NDC asserts that it has infused genuine significance into local governance and participation in development. The party expresses concern about the notably low public interest in tomorrow’s election and attributes this to a significant issue. Consequently, they encourage Ghanaians to exercise their voting rights on the upcoming day.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has affirmed its preparedness for the district-level elections scheduled for Tuesday, December 19. This includes 18,755 assembly member candidates and 47,502 unit committee member candidates, totaling 66,257 candidates.
These candidates will vie for positions across 6,215 electoral areas spanning 216 metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies.
