Most players usually remain in the sport after retiring as a coach or sports director, but Abu turned his back on his retirement and is now taking a break from soccer to pursue other dreams.
According to Abu, he has always dreamed of helping build his homeland Ghana, which was the main reason he went to construction school to become a professional Contractor.
Although he did not perform well in his studies, he said that after moving overseas he realized that education in Africa was different from education in Australia.
Therefore, it was easy for him to study in Ghana because talent is encouraged in Australia, unlike Ghana.
The former footballer who hails from Asuifi North, Ahafo Region disclosed his plan to establish a football academy in his hometown of Kenyasi to develop young football talent and also contribute to the development of his hometown by becoming a leading road builder as far as roads are concerned.
During his football days, he played for the Feyenoord Academy in the Volta Region of Ghana (2000-2005), Corner’s Babies in Kumasi, Ghana (2005-2007) and King Faisal Babes in Kumasi, Ghana (2007-2008), played for Cha Choeng Sao F.C in Thailand (2009-2011), Air Force United FC Thailand (2011-2013) and Phatthalung in Thailand (2013-2014), scoring 46 goals throughout his career.
