Former Attorney General from the Kufuor administration, Nii Ayikoi Otoo, has advised the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) against organizing press conferences to criticize judges’ dismissive rulings in suspected corruption cases.
Instead, he suggests that the OSP should utilize the legal avenue of filing appeals.
This advice comes in response to the OSP expressing concern about the increasing trend of dismissive rulings in suspected corruption cases, which they fear could hinder the fight against corruption.
Additionally, Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, recently stated that the creation of the Office of the Special Prosecutor was futile.
The Akufo-Addo government established the OSP to combat numerous corruption cases in the country. The Special Prosecutor himself has voiced concerns about efforts to undermine his work.
Speaker Alban Bagbin advocates for the decoupling of the Attorney General’s department from the Ministry of Justice.
