Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has expressed his view that the opposition to the 2024 budget, as presented to parliament, is unnecessary.

This statement comes in response to the resistance from the minority group in parliament, particularly the National Democratic Congress (NDC) members.

The NDC minority maintains their opposition to the 2024 budget, asserting that its current form will exacerbate the challenges already faced by Ghanaians.

The budget faced hurdles in the parliamentary process, leading to the majority staging a walkout after disagreements with the speaker’s decision to conduct a headcount of MPs in the chamber following the minority’s call for a vote.

In addressing reporters, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta expressed his perplexity at the opposition, emphasizing his difficulty in understanding why there would be resistance to a budget aimed at improving the country’s economy.
