Minority threatens to oppose approval of 2024 Budget again

The Minority in Parliament has issued a threat to once again oppose the approval of the 2024 budget.

During the initial approval process, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin called for a voice vote, which was declared in favor of the majority.

However, the Minority insisted on a headcount, leading to the Majority caucus staging a walkout on the approval process.

Speaking to journalists, Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson stated that the 2024 budget is still pending approval and will face defeat again today.

The Minority’s stance is rooted in their belief that the current state of the budget will impose additional hardships on citizens.

In contrast, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and the Majority in Parliament maintain that the 2024 budget was passed following the declaration of the voice vote by Speaker Alban Bagbin.

Despite the Minority’s position that the budget has not been passed, the Finance Minister asserted that the Speaker’s declaration signifies the budget’s approval.
