Isaac Offei Baah, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health, has provided an update on the payment of arrears to nursing trainees.
According to him, the Ministry of Finance has released GH¢154 million to settle the outstanding arrears. Last week, GH¢62 million was disbursed, and this week an additional GH¢30 million has been released.
They anticipate the disbursement of another GH¢62 million next week.
Mr. Offei Baah also appealed to the trainees for patience, explaining that the government is actively addressing the arrears issue.
He mentioned that the government and the trainees had an agreement for a seven-month payment period, and progress has been made with the disbursements.
He acknowledged the delays but attributed them to the challenging economic situation the government faced earlier. He emphasized that the situation is improving, and funds are being released to settle the arrears.
This development follows the threat by nursing and midwife trainees to protest over the non-payment of their allowances.
