Nurse-Midwife Trainees issue ultimatum to Ministry of Health over unpaid allowances

The Ghana Nurse-Midwife Trainees Association (GNMTA) has issued a stern ultimatum to the Ministry of Health regarding the non-payment of allowances owed to its trainees.

In a released statement, the association conveyed its disappointment with the delayed disbursement of arrears owed to trainee nurses and midwives.

Despite previous assurances of financial clearance given to the Controller and Accountant General, the association highlighted that only a fraction of the long-overdue two-year arrears has been addressed.

Back in July, the group had urgently appealed to the government to address the critical issue of unpaid allowances, which had persisted for several months.

The extended delay in resolving this matter has exacerbated the challenges faced by the trainees, who heavily rely on these allowances for their education and well-being.

The trainee nurses and midwives are currently grappling with significant difficulties and stress, emphasizing their urgent need for the owed funds to be promptly disbursed.
