The Member of Parliament for Suhum in the Eastern Region, Oboafo Kwadjo Asante, has revealed that the Akufo-Addo-led government has allocated over GH¢114.5 billion to the educational sector since 2017.
During his address at the Suhum-Okroase Odwira Festival, he disclosed that a significant portion, GH¢12.96 billion, has been directed towards senior high schools nationwide.
The government’s investments reportedly encompass educational infrastructure, teaching and learning projects, and the school feeding program, contributing to an increase in the literacy rate not only in Ghana but also in the Suhum Constituency.
Highlighting the impact of the Free SHS policy, Asante mentioned that the student population in Senior High has risen from 830,000 when President Akufo-Addo assumed office to 1.4 million students.
He emphasized that, prior to the introduction of the Free SHS program, approximately 100,000 qualified students were unable to attend Senior High School annually due to financial constraints.
Encouraging the youth, Oboafo Kwadjo Asante urged them to prioritize investing their time and resources in education rather than indulging in temporary pleasures.
