The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced a 1.52% reduction in electricity tariffs and a 0.34% upward adjustment in water tariffs, effective December 1, 2023.
The decision was communicated through a press release dated November 23, 2023, and signed by the Executive Secretary of PURC, Dr. Ishmael Ackah.
Dr. Ackah explained that the reduction in electricity tariffs and the increase in water tariffs for the fourth quarter of 2023 are in line with the Commission’s Quarterly Tariff Review Mechanism.
This mechanism considers and incorporates fluctuations in key uncontrollable factors, such as the exchange rate between the US dollar and the Ghana Cedi, domestic inflation rate, the electricity generation mix, and the cost of fuel, particularly natural gas.
The newly adjusted tariffs will be applicable from December 1, 2023, to February 29, 2024.
