Chief of Staff emphasizes ongoing commitment of GH¢40 Million allocated for Akosombo Dam Spillage relief

The Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare, has announced that the government is actively seeking additional funding support from the World Bank to facilitate the second phase of restoring properties for victims affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage.

She emphasized the government’s ongoing commitment to the restoration of livelihoods, with GH¢40 million already allocated for this purpose.

Speaking as the chairperson of the inter-ministerial committee established by the president to assess the situation in affected areas, Osei Opare highlighted the government’s budget of GH¢220 million, as announced by the Finance Minister.

This financial allocation is expected to significantly aid victims, ensuring that no one is left behind in all affected areas.

Osei Opare noted that, within the designated period, the government has made GH¢40 million available for relief efforts through the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).

She assured that the government is committed to releasing additional funds and is taking steps to secure additional funding from the World Bank to support the affected communities, particularly in terms of rehabilitation.
