NPP expels prominent members for endorsing another candidate

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially announced the forfeiture of membership for four prominent members—Hopeson Adorye, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Nana Ohene Ntow, and Boniface Abubakar Saddique—citing their public endorsement of a candidate other than the Party’s duly elected Presidential Candidate, His Excellency Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia.

The leadership of the NPP, in a press release dated November 20, 2023, expressed deep concern over the actions of the aforementioned individuals, which they deemed a flagrant breach of the Party’s Constitution.

The dissenting members were accused of violating Articles 3(5)(A)(4) and 3(9)(1) of the NPP Constitution.

Article 3(5)(A)(4) explicitly mandates all members of the Party to “abide by and publicly uphold the decisions of the Party.” Meanwhile, Article 3(9)(1) states that “a Member of the Party, who stands as an independent candidate against the officially elected member of the Party, or who joins or declares his or her support for another Political Party, automatically forfeits his or her membership of the Party.”

In light of these constitutional provisions, the NPP has declared that Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene Ntow, Boniface Abubakar Saddique, and Yaw Buaben Asamoa have automatically forfeited their membership of the Party.

The NPP emphasized that these individuals are no longer recognized as members.

Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary of the NPP, urged party members to remain steadfast in upholding the principles outlined in Article 3(5) of the party Constitution.

The press release further emphasized the Party’s commitment to uniting its ranks and rallying support from Ghanaians to secure victory in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
