Politics is now expensive and this has led to corruption in Ghana- Snr. Pst., Calvary Baptist Church

The Senior Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Dr. Fred Deegbe, has urged political parties in Ghana to implement reforms that would facilitate easy access for individuals interested in holding political positions.

Speaking during the National Christian Forum 2023 organized by Advocates for Christ Ghana, Dr. Deegbe emphasized that such reforms are crucial in addressing corruption within the political landscape.

Dr. Deegbe pointed out that one of the root causes of corruption in the country is the exorbitant fees associated with the picking and filing of political forms, which prevent many capable individuals from applying for political positions, creating a system where only those with significant financial resources can participate.

Highlighting the consequences of this practice, Dr. Deegbe argued that individuals who are genuinely interested in serving the country are often excluded from the political process due to financial constraints and this results in a lack of diverse perspectives and the underutilization of potential leaders who could contribute positively to national development.

In his call for change, Dr. Deegbe urged political parties to reconsider their approach to the financial aspects of political participation by making political forms more accessible and affordable would encourage a broader range of individuals to participate.

Moreover, Dr. Deegbe called on fellow clergymen to use their influence to speak out against the rising tide of corruption in Ghana.

He argued that their collective voice could play a crucial role in raising awareness and pressuring authorities to address corruption at its root.
