Government denies NAM1’s claim of GH¢5 Million deposit for Menzgold customers

The government has refuted claims made by the Chief Executive Officer of the defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM1), regarding the deposit of GH¢5 million with the Ghana Police Service.

In a statement, NAM1 had asserted that the amount was intended for distribution to customers of the collapsed firm who had successfully undergone a verification process, including those eligible for a GH¢2.5 million judgment debt.

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, responded to questions on the floor of Parliament, revealing that only GH¢2.5 million was received from NAM1 and not the reported GH¢5 million.

The clarification comes amid heightened expectations from aggrieved Menzgold customers seeking the release of their funds since the company suspended operations in 2018, facing allegations of operating a Ponzi scheme.

NAM1 is presently on trial for fraud related to the activities of Menzgold.
