In a decisive move, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the schedule for its Extraordinary Constituency Delegates Conference slated for Saturday, December 2, 2023.
The conference aims to elect the party’s Parliamentary Candidates in Constituencies where the party currently lacks parliamentary representation, known as Orphan Constituencies.
This resolution was reached during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting convened on Friday, November 10, 2023.
The vetting of aspiring Parliamentary Candidates for these Constituencies is scheduled to take place in various regional capitals from Tuesday, November 14, 2023, to Thursday, November 16, 2023.
Regional Executive Committees have been directed to promptly communicate the dates, times, and venues for the vetting process to their respective Constituencies and aspiring parliamentary candidates.
The Extraordinary Constituency Delegates Conference will occur in all Orphan Constituencies, excluding specific constituencies such as Ketu North, Akatsi North, Yilo Krobo, Jomoro, Fomena, and Bawku Central.
Additionally, the NPP has appointed national representatives to the Vetting Committees for various regions. Notable appointees include Salam Mustapha for the Oti Region, Alhaji Abdul Aziz Futa for the Western Region, and Rita Asobayire for the Bono East Region, among others.
In a separate development, the Party has rescheduled the date for the Parliamentary Primaries in Constituencies where the NPP currently has sitting MPs.
The new date for these primaries is set for January 20, 2024, with the nomination period opening on December 20, 2023, and closing on December 22, 2023.
The Party intends to issue detailed guidelines governing the conduct of the primaries in these Constituencies.
