NDC labels Dr. Bawumia’s 61% NPP Flagbearer vote share as embarrassing

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) seems undisturbed by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s win as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer.

The NDC has expressed that Dr. Bawumia’s 61 percent vote share victory is seen as embarrassing.

Official election results indicate that Dr. Bawumia secured 61.43% of the votes, with Mr. Agyapong as the closest competitor, garnering 37.41%. Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Addai-Nimoh received 1,459 and 731 votes, respectively.

This win is a historic moment for Dr. Bawumia, marking the first non-Akan leader to represent the NPP in a general election.

The upcoming 2024 election is anticipated to be highly competitive, with Dr. Bawumia and former President Mahama considered strong contenders.

Speaking on a radio program, a national executive of the NDC, Mardi Jibril, suggested that Dr. Bawumia’s total votes within his own party might signify a lack of trust in him due to his government’s performance.
