Ghana’s Trade Minister announces ambitious job creation plans through vehicle assembly and key industry revival

The Minister of Trade and Industry, K.T. Hammond, has announced the government’s commitment to generating 2,000 jobs within a year through the establishment of vehicle assembly plants, thanks to a deliberate policy intervention.

Mr. Hammond made this declaration during the inaugural Ghana Mutual Prosperity Dialogues.

He also mentioned that the legislative instruments required for the full implementation of the Automotive Policy will be finalized in the coming year.

This policy is aimed at boosting the automotive industry and, in turn, job creation.

Additionally, Mr. Hammond elaborated on the analytical assessment of Ghana’s comparative advantages, which has resulted in a renewed policy emphasis on the development of the textiles and garments, as well as the pharmaceutical sectors.

As a result of these efforts, it is anticipated that around 30,000 jobs in garment manufacturing and exports will be established by the end of 2024.
