The Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin, has provided an update on the residents of Garu and Tempane who were arrested and have been detained by the national security in Accra.
According to him, after a visit to the detained individuals in custody, it was observed that they are in good health and high spirits.
He noted that the detained residents have not reported any instances of assault or mistreatment while in custody.
These residents from Garu and Tempane were allegedly involved in altercations with a joint team of national security and military personnel, who were responding to an alleged attack on national security officers.
Following the confrontations, some of the individuals were transported to Accra and have been in detention since then.
Members of Parliament (MPs) have called for the release of these detained individuals, and the Parliament has also summoned the national security minister, Albert Kan Dapaah, to answer questions regarding the situation.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin reassured that the detained youths are in good health, providing some relief to concerns about their well-being.
The Minority Chief Whip, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has emphasized the need for the release of the detained residents, further highlighting the calls for their freedom.
