Mr. Stephen Ntim, the National Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a strong call for all NPP members to unite and offer their support to the newly elected party leader and flagbearer following the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for November 4, 2023.
Chairman Ntim emphasized that unwavering support for the party’s new leader after the internal poll is the most certain way for the NPP to achieve its goal of “breaking the 8,” signifying a third successive term in office in the December 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Speaking at a joint press conference held by the National Executive Committee and Council of Elders of the NPP at the Alisa Hotel on November 2, 2023, Mr. Stephen Ntim stated, “It is evident that what stands in the way of the [NPP] to a third consecutive electoral victory is ourselves, our actions, and our inactions.”
He encouraged the four flagbearer aspirants to work together as a team to ensure victory, even if they do not emerge as the winner on Saturday. Rallying behind the eventual winner, he emphasized, is crucial for promoting unity and healing any wounds that may have emerged during the internal contest.
Ntim called for letting go of personal differences and disagreements, prioritizing the party’s larger interest over individual concerns. He stressed the generational nature of the NPP’s mission, focusing on building on the party’s existing achievements rather than detracting from them.
“As Chairman, working with the Steering Committee, we will take a strong stance against indiscipline in the Party and any actions or inactions that could undermine our generational mandate and the goal of winning the 2024 elections,” Ntim added.
Touching on the Akufo-Addo government’s efforts to revive the economy, Mr. Ntim highlighted that the state of the economy would be a critical aspect of the 2024 election campaign.
He expressed confidence that the steps taken by the government would continue to yield positive results, providing a strong foundation for the party’s campaign.
“The 2024 general elections will be fought on many fronts, especially the economy. But we know we will win the battle of the economy because our capacity, commitment, and record show that we have what it takes to regenerate the economy from the ruins of COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine War that threw the entire global economy out of balance,” Ntim asserted.
He noted the challenges faced by Ghanaians due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
However, Ntim expressed optimism that the economy was on an upward trajectory, with decreasing inflation and a stabilizing currency, providing hope for a brighter future.
