The Diaspora Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who have expressed their support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, have dismissed allegations that President Akufo Addo would exercise authority over the vice president if he were to lead the party and assume the presidency.
The NPP, the ruling party, is getting ready to choose its flagbearer this weekend. Delegates will decide whether Vice President Dr. Afriyie Akoto, Kennedy Agyapong, and Francis Addai-Nimoh will be included on the party’s ticket for the 2024 elections.
The election is expected to be fiercely contested.
Members of the Diaspora Caucus of the NPP have actively campaigned for Vice President Dr. Bawumia, believing he is the most suitable candidate to lead the party among the other contenders.
Some have raised concerns that Dr. Bawumia might be subject to control by President Akufo Addo, but one of the executives from the Diaspora Caucus, Oheneba Kwame Danso, refuted these claims during an interview on the Morning Drive with Kwabena Prah The Don on Hot FM.
