You can still vote without your voter’s ID cards- EC to Akosombo Dam flood victims

The Electoral Commission (EC) has reassured individuals affected by the Akosombo dam spillage that they will have the opportunity to participate in the upcoming District-Level Elections scheduled for Tuesday, December 19, 2023.

This assurance was given during a press briefing titled “Let the citizens know” on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, by Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations.

Mr. Tettey clarified that even if the affected individuals have lost their voter ID cards, they can still cast their votes as long as their names are accurately registered in the commission’s database.

He stated, “If you have lost your voter ID card but your name is correctly listed in the voter’s register, you can still vote without your voter’s ID card.”

However, Mr. Tettey emphasized that the ease of voting for the flood victims depends on them going to the correct polling stations.

He mentioned, “The challenge is that if you go to the wrong polling station, it may cause delays because we may not find you in the register. But if you go to the correct polling station, your name will be on the register, and you will be allowed to vote.”

In addition, the Electoral Commission (EC) will display the provisional voters register from Friday, November 3, 2023, to Tuesday, November 7, 2023, in preparation for the District Level Elections (DLE).

This exhibition will occur at all 38,622 polling stations across the country, running from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the exercise.
