NPP and Ghana Police Service collaborate on security measures for upcoming presidential elections

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Ghana Police Service have reached an agreement on the election modalities for the upcoming NPP presidential elections scheduled for November 4, 2023.

The party has agreed to allow the police service to take complete control of security during the elections.

The NPP is holding these elections to select a flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.

The presidential race is closely contested by prominent figures within the party, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyepong, Francis Addai Nimo, and former Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie.

During discussions between the NPP and the police, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, Chairman of the Presidential Election Committee for the NPP, urged the police to handle individuals engaging in misconduct during the elections.

The General Secretary of the party, Justin Frimpong Kodua, also emphasized the importance of the police taking action against anyone who might cause trouble, regardless of their position.

Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare called for cooperation to ensure the diligent execution of their duties.

Samuel Tetteh, the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations at the Electoral Commission, confirmed that preparations are underway to ensure a smooth election process.
