The Volta River Authority (VRA) has revealed that it spent more than GH¢20 million on relief items to assist residents affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage.
These funds were utilized to purchase foodstuffs, mattresses, and medical supplies to support the affected communities.
Engineer Ken Arthur, a Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the VRA, emphasized that the organization is working diligently to alleviate the challenges faced by over 36,000 people impacted by the spillage.
He also dismissed claims that the VRA had not adequately informed residents in advance of the spillage.
According to him, all necessary precautions were taken to ensure the integrity of the dam and that emergency preparedness protocols were in place to alert potentially affected individuals before the spillage event began.
