Former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has described his time serving in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government as a significant sacrifice.

He revealed that during his four-year tenure as a minister, he had to divert his attention from managing two hospitals and other businesses, and he also didn’t have much time for his grandchildren. However, he noted that he served the nation willingly and effectively.

In a television interview with TV3’s Kemini Amanor on the Hot Issue program, Professor Frimpong-Boateng clarified that his criticisms of the government do not make him a traitor to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He emphasized that he was offering his views to make the party stronger and Ghana a better place. He expressed his patriotism but rejected the term “traitor.”

Professor Frimpong-Boateng authored a report during his tenure as Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) in which he made several allegations of government officials being involved in illegal small-scale mining (Galamsey).

The Attorney-General examined the report and subsequently issued advice to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) based on it.

The report’s allegations were found to lack substantial evidence.

Professor Frimpong-Boateng denied the Attorney-General’s claim that he refused to provide further information to the police, stating that he fully cooperated with the CID during their investigation.
