The Minority Caucus in Parliament is calling for an investigation into the conduct of the Volta River Authority (VRA) regarding the spillage of the Akosombo Dam, which has affected over 26,000 people in the region.
During a donation of items to victims in the South Tongu Constituency on behalf of the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, the National Chairman of the NDC, John Asiedu Nketia, urged the government to immediately house the affected people in the unoccupied Saglemi housing units.
Nketia strongly believes that the VRA has not been proactive in addressing the issues related to this incident and that the Authority is responsible for causing this severe man-made disaster.
The Minority Caucus is thus demanding an immediate investigation into the matter.
The Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, expressed the caucus’s disappointment in President Akufo-Addo for his comments during his visit to the region, suggesting that the President does not care about the affected people, and they are deeply sorry for the negligence of the Majority Caucus.
