The Ghana Health Service has stated that the situation arising from the spillage caused by the Akosombo Dam is under control and does not require a health emergency declaration.
The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Patrick Kuma Aboagye, mentioned that individuals affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage have been provided with free medical healthcare.
The Ghana Health Service has established satellite treatment centers and has made medicines and vaccines available at various centers.
They have also instructed healthcare facilities to provide free healthcare to those who have lost their NHIS cards or have insufficient funds while seeking long-term solutions to address the situation.
Despite the challenges posed by the flooding, the Ghana Health Service is monitoring the situation daily to respond to the outbreak of cholera and diarrhea-related diseases.
A total of 78 communities have been affected, five health facilities have been immobilized, and 171 health workers have been displaced due to the spillage.
