The Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, has delivered guidance to the recently inducted lawyers, emphasizing the importance of upholding the ethical standards of the legal profession and maintaining a dignified conduct befitting legal practitioners.
The advice came during the 60th induction ceremony, a long-standing tradition associated with the Ghana School of Law.
A total of 1097 new lawyers, who had successfully passed the bar exams, were inducted at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Chief Justice Torkornoo addressed the newly qualified lawyers, highlighting the crucial role that integrity will play in shaping their legal careers.
Justice Torkornoo underlined the responsibility of lawyers to be a part of the mechanism that ensures the dispensation of justice in a complex environment.
She also stressed that the personal reputation of a lawyer is their most valuable asset, with qualities such as trustworthiness, honesty, and adherence to ethical standards being essential components.
The Chief Justice further emphasized that the way lawyers communicate, listen, handle information, and manage relationships will significantly affect the legacies they build throughout their careers, and that their reputations will be founded on these principles from the moment they begin their professional journey.
