Tema Mayor denies allegations of illegal fees, stresses by-law enforcement

The Mayor of Tema, Yohane Amarh Ashitey, has refuted allegations made by certain drivers in Tema regarding illegal fees collected by the assembly.

He asserted that such claims are not accurate.

Some drivers in Tema, in the Greater Accra region, have expressed their dissatisfaction with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) for confiscating their vehicles on the grounds of allegedly picking up passengers at unauthorized bus stops.

These drivers have claimed that TMA officials stop them and impound their vehicles, demanding a payment of GHC 500 for the release of their cars.

However, Mayor Yohane Amarh Ashitey has denied these claims. He stated that the assembly is simply enforcing its by-laws, ensuring that transport operators do not load or park in unauthorized areas.
