Members of the Ghana Association of Certified Registered Anaesthetists (GACRA) have announced that they will no longer seek registration with the Medical and Dental Council (MDC) to practice under the title Physician Assistant (PA).
The association has long been advocating for the establishment of an independent regulatory body to oversee their work and licensing, as they no longer wish to be regulated by the Medical and Dental Council.
In a letter addressed to the Minister of Health, the group has communicated that if, by the end of October 2023, there is no formal arrangement in place to allow them to register as Anaesthetists, they may consider abstaining from work, especially when their licenses expire.
This action is a response to their ongoing call for an independent regulatory body for their profession.
