The Assemblies of God, Ghana, has called for a permanent solution to the recurring problem of flooding in communities whenever there is a dam spillage in the country.
The church emphasized the need for practical engineering solutions, intensified public education on disaster prevention, and effective sanctions against those responsible for environmental degradation in order to address this issue.
While supporting calls for the declaration of a state of emergency, the church stressed that these measures are necessary for the nation to seriously find long-term solutions to flooding and other persistent environmental challenges.
Speaking at a press conference at the church’s headquarters in Accra, the General Superintendent of the church, Rev. Dr. Stephen Wengam, also called for legislative and humanitarian efforts to strengthen the current measures being taken to address the concerning situation.
Rev. Dr. Wengam emphasized the importance of applying science and technology alongside prayers to effectively deal with the risks posed to human lives and property in flood-prone areas.
