The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is urging the government to promptly offer assistance to the victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage.
Numerous residents in areas including South Tongu, North Tongu, Central Tongu, Asuogyaman, and others saw their homes submerged as a result of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams spillage, which commenced on September 15.
During a press conference called the “Moment of Truth” at the party’s headquarters on Monday, October 16, the NDC expressed sympathy for the affected communities and reinforced the calls made by former President John Dramani Mahama for the government and relevant agencies to provide immediate support for the people.
The NDC’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, urged the government, the Volta River Authority (VRA), and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to address the needs of those affected.
Gyamfi stated, “Before we delve into today’s main subject matter, we want to first convey our heartfelt sympathies to the residents of the North, South, and Central Tongu districts in the Volta Region who have been displaced by the devastating Akosombo Dam spillage.”
“As we express our sympathy to the victims of this disaster, we wish to reiterate the important call made by our Flag-bearer and leader, H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, for the government of Ghana to swiftly provide the required support for the affected communities through the Volta River Authority (VRA), the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), and other relevant agencies.”
“It is imperative that this be done without delay to alleviate the suffering of our fellow citizens,” Gyamfi added.
