Dr. Anastasia Yirenkyi, the Acting Registrar of the Traditional and Alternative Medicine Council under the Ministry of Health, has confirmed that traditional medicine does not cause kidney disease.
She emphasized that traditional medicine does not contain chemical components that could lead to kidney or lung diseases, debunking the belief that herbal medicine is a cause of such ailments.
Speaking at the 5th Induction Ceremony of Medical Herbalists from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Accra, Dr. Yirenkyi encouraged the new medical herbalists to take on the challenge of providing healthcare to the people of Ghana.
She stressed the importance of professionalism to maintain trust in the sector.
Dr. Anastasia Yirenkyi, who also serves as the Director of the Traditional and Alternative Medicine Directorate at the Health Ministry, highlighted the substantial value of traditional and herbal medicines, not only for health but also for boosting economic growth.
She called on Ghanaians to embrace the use of herbal medicine as practiced in ancient times.
