The Radiological and Medical Sciences Research Institute has partnered with the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission Hospital and GAEC Ladies Association to organize a Breast Cancer Awareness Screening as part of the GAEC at 60 celebrations.
This event, including a Breast Cancer Walk and free screening, will take place on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Dome-Kwabenya principal streets in Accra.
Dr. Shiraz Issahaku, Senior Medical Physics, Radiological and Medical Sciences Research Institute, Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, explained that October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and during this time, the public is educated about breast cancer.
As part of these awareness efforts, free breast screening services are offered to the public. The aim is to bring awareness to the public and promote the importance of screening for early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
Dr. Issahaku further stated that they began their screening activities on October 2, 2023, and intend to continue screening until the end of October.
Their target is to screen 2000 people by the end of October, and they plan to engage market women in the Kwabenya market and Typher market in the coming week.
They will also provide free screening at the Atomic Ghana Energy Commission hospital throughout the month, making it accessible to anyone in the Dome-Kwabenya area.
