President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on global leaders to provide proportionate support to Africa in its fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
He noted that despite economic difficulties faced by ECOWAS Member States, many have expressed their willingness to combat terrorists if they are sufficiently empowered.
Speaking on “Democracy and Security in West Africa” at the United States Institute of Peace’s Program in Washington D.C., President Akufo-Addo highlighted the growing displacement of populations in Africa due to insecurity caused by armed groups.
He emphasized that Africa has become a focal point for terrorist groups, leading to a proliferation of such groups in the region.
Additionally, President Akufo-Addo condemned recent military takeovers in some West African countries.
