Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has advised the heads of public and private institutions not to relegate National Service Personnel (NSP) to the role of errand boys and girls.
Mr. Bagbin emphasized that the national service period is a critical year for the development of these personnel and should not be wasted on menial tasks that do not contribute to their growth.
The Speaker made these comments during the launch of the Golden Jubilee anniversary of the National Service Scheme (NSS) in Accra.
He asserted that the service period is meant to prepare the personnel for the world of work, and it is regrettable that some employees treat them poorly, even to the extent of not providing them with proper workspace.
Bagbin highlighted the challenges facing the country and stressed the need for sustainable solutions.
He suggested that the NSS could be a platform for developing the next generation of leaders, problem solvers, and change-makers.
