Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Agona West Constituency are demanding the removal of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Agona West Assembly, Mr. Evans Addison-Coleman, following a decongestion exercise in the Central Business District (CBD) of Agona Swedru.
Protests erupted in the town on Tuesday as numerous traders, who conduct their businesses in the CBD, took to the streets to express their displeasure with the decision by the Assembly to relocate them to the Mandela market.
They fear that the move will result in a loss of customers and negatively impact their livelihoods.
The protest, which saw participation from NPP executive members, occurred despite efforts by the police to intervene and maintain order.
Those party members who joined the traders in the demonstration expressed concerns that the MCE’s decision might lead to dissatisfaction among party supporters.
Mr. Evans Addison-Coleman, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Agona West Assembly, has refuted all allegations made against him by individuals opposing the decongestion exercise and the relocation of market women in Agona Swedru.
In response to the allegations, Mr. Addison-Coleman has stated that the decongestion exercise and the subsequent relocation of market women were part of the Assembly’s long-standing plans to prevent potential issues.
He emphasized that the Assembly will not be deterred by the opposition and remains committed to relocating the market women to ensure order and sanitation in the Central Business District.
