Coalition of La Association (COLA) threatens demonstrations over land dispute

The Coalition of La Association (COLA) has announced its intention to carry out a series of demonstrations and other lawful actions if the La Traditional Council and the government do not address their concerns regarding land disputes in the area.

COLA represents the youth of La and has raised alarms over what they describe as the unchecked annexation and continuous encroachment of their lands by the military and the government.

The group alleges that the La Traditional Council has shown a lack of concern, leading them to believe that the council’s leadership may have collaborated with the government regarding the disputed 114 acres of the Kpletso Site in the Burma Camp Catchment Area.

Speaking to the media on October 9, 2023, Jeffrey Tetteh, the spokesperson for COLA, declared that La’s youth would not stand idly by if any portion of the Kpletso land was taken by the military.

He emphasized that the chiefs and elders of the La Traditional Council should engage in meaningful dialogue with the government since they hold allodial rights to the Kpletso site at the Burma Camp Catchment Area.
