The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has defended its decision to impose taxes on bloggers, brand influencers, MCs, and others who generate income through digital means.
This move to tax digital income has been a topic of discussion in many countries, including Ghana, and has raised concerns among those affected.
Edward Gyambra, the Commissioner in charge of the domestic tax revenue division of the GRA, clarified that the expansion of the tax base does not involve the creation of a new tax but rather aims to ensure that all businesses, whether operating online or offline, contribute their fair share to the national revenue.
According to Gyambra, this approach is viewed as a matter of fairness, ensuring that income generated from digital activities is subject to taxation, just like income from traditional businesses.
