Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, has announced that the government is considering offering transfer grants to teachers who are willing to be posted to underserved or deprived communities.
This initiative aims to address the teacher-student ratio in the country and ensure that all areas have access to qualified educators.
The minister’s statement comes in response to concerns about teacher shortages in some Ghanaian schools, particularly those located in rural areas.
Dr. Adutwum emphasized that Ghana has an ample supply of teachers but faces deployment challenges, leading to disparities in teacher distribution.
He expressed optimism that the deployment challenge will be resolved in the coming months, assuring the public that many qualified individuals are eager to teach and help bridge the gap in underserved areas.
