During the 2023 Ghana Teacher Prize ceremony in Takoradi, Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum addressed concerns about teacher shortages in some Ghanaian schools, particularly in rural areas.
He emphasized that Ghana is not experiencing a teacher shortage overall and clarified that the issue lies in the deployment of teachers rather than a lack of educators.
Dr. Adutwum acknowledged that there have been deployment challenges leading to certain schools lacking teachers. However, he assured that the government is actively working to resolve these issues and ensure a more balanced distribution of teachers across the country.
The minister mentioned that the government is prepared to pay transfer grants to teachers to facilitate this redistribution.
Furthermore, Dr. Adutwum took the opportunity to dispel claims that the education system in Ghana is deteriorating under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration.
