In a strongly-worded statement today, Ernest Owusu Bempah, Deputy National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), called upon CEOs of parastatal institutions appointed by President Akufo-Addo to actively defend the government’s image when it comes under attack.
Bempah expressed concerns that some CEOs seem complacent in their positions and appear indifferent to the public perception of the government that appointed them.
He emphasized that it is the duty and responsibility of every government appointee to safeguard the reputation of the administration that entrusted them with their roles.
In his statement, Bempah said, “There are some Akufo-Addo appointed CEOs who are just comfortable in their positions and care very little about the public image of the government that made it possible for them to have a job. Well, if you’re a CEO and think it is not your job to defend the government when it comes under attack, think again.”
He continued, “In fact, it is the job and responsibility of every appointee to look after the goose that lays the golden egg, and I’m sure President Akufo-Addo is closely monitoring and watching all CEOs of parastatal institutions who simply don’t want to dirty their hands for the good of the government that they’re part of.”
Bempah drew a historical parallel, referencing the tragedy of Julius Caesar, known as the “Ides of March,” from the Shakespearean era.
He highlighted the soothsayer’s failed attempts to warn Caesar of impending danger, suggesting that ignoring such warnings could have dire consequences.
In conclusion, Bempah hinted at potential consequences, stating, “I wouldn’t be surprised if heads start rolling soon among the CEOs.”
