The residents of Assin Dompim in the Assin Fosu Municipality of the Central Region of Ghana have been shocked and saddened by the tragic death of a nineteen-year-old married woman named Philipa Obeng.
She was a mother of one child.
The tragedy occurred after Philipa confessed to her husband that she had committed infidelity by having a sexual affair with another man.
This confession led to her being trolled and ridiculed by some members of the community.
Unable to bear the humiliation and shame, Philipa decided to take her own life. She mixed weedicide with orange juice and consumed it without her husband’s knowledge after a minor altercation.
Although she didn’t die immediately, she was rushed to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu for treatment. Unfortunately, she passed away at the hospital.
It was reported that Philipa had often threatened to commit suicide due to the constant laughter and mockery from community members. At the hospital, she initially denied consuming weedicide, which might have contributed to her death.
It was only after an autopsy that it was confirmed that she had ingested weedkiller mixed with juice.
The husband, Pascal, has been arrested by the police in Assin Fosu to assist with the investigation into the tragic incident.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital Mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
