The Minority Leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has stated that protesters demanding the resignation of Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr. Ernest Yedu Addison, will not cease their efforts until they are granted a meeting with him to present their petition.
Dr. Ato Forson expressed frustration that Governor Addison had declined to meet with the protesters, citing an ongoing meeting with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as the reason. He criticized the governor for not allocating even a brief time to meet with the demonstrators.
According to Dr. Ato Forson, the petition includes more than just a request for the resignation of BoG leadership, and therefore, sending security officers to receive it was seen as disrespectful.
He mentioned that they would not present the petition at that time but would seek another opportunity to do so.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary of the NDC, also weighed in, asserting that the IMF should not be considered more important than the Ghanaian citizens whose taxes fund the institution.
He added that the Minority would boycott any parliamentary presentations made by Dr. Addison in the future.
The protesters are demanding the resignation of the BoG Governor over concerns related to the country’s economy and financial policies.
