The Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Movement Ghana (ADAM-GH), a Civil Society Organization (CSO), has informed the Accra Regional Police Commander of their intention to organize a peaceful demonstration against the Ghana Police Service.
This demonstration is scheduled to take place on October 15, 2023, and is motivated by several reasons, including recent instances of what they view as unlawful arrests and detentions of citizens during the “Occupyjulorbihouse” demonstration.
Additionally, they are protesting what they perceive as a continuous denial of citizens’ rights to protest or demonstrate.
According to ADAM-GH, they believe that the Ghana Police Service has demonstrated a selective approach to justice that is unacceptable.
They argue that the law mandates citizens to merely notify the police about their planned demonstrations, with the expectation that the police will provide the necessary protection. However, ADAM-GH claims that the police have failed in fulfilling this responsibility, thereby violating the law.
In essence, ADAM-GH is seeking to highlight their concerns about what they perceive as shortcomings and breaches of the law in the actions and practices of the Ghana Police Service.
They intend to do so through a peaceful demonstration scheduled for October 15, 2023.
