The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has once again called on the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to reset the academic calendar to the trimester system, which involves three terms per academic year.
NAGRAT argues that the current academic calendar, with its increase in student population and extended teaching period, is placing significant pressure on teachers and the management of second-cycle institutions.
During a press conference, NAGRAT President Angel Carbonu emphasized the urgency of implementing this change.
He also expressed concerns about the government’s unfulfilled promises to eliminate the double-track system in senior high schools (SHSs).
Carbonu noted that despite the government’s pledge to end the double-track system within five years, 40% of SHSs are still operating under this system two years after the promised deadline.
