Electoral Commission registers over 670,000 new voters in Limited Registration Exercise

The Electoral Commission (EC) has successfully registered 673,276 new voters within sixteen days of commencing the limited voter registration process nationwide.

During a press briefing held at the Electoral Commission’s headquarters on Thursday, September 28, 2023, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bossman Asare reported that the registration process is progressing smoothly in all district offices across the country, in accordance with the established plan.

Dr. Asare also provided assurance to the general public that this ongoing registration exercise will not be the last one before the 2024 general elections. Plans are in place to conduct another limited registration exercise in selected electoral areas and hard-to-reach regions before the upcoming polls.

Dr. Asare expressed satisfaction with the considerable increase in the number of registrations, noting that an average of 50,000 registrations per day has been achieved since the previous week. The Commission is now close to reaching its target of 700,000 registered individuals in this registration drive.

He emphasized, “We want to clarify that this won’t be the final registration exercise before the 2024 general elections. In 2024, we will initiate another continuous registration drive at our district offices and extend registration services to remote areas in selected locations.”

The limited voter registration exercise, which commenced on September 12, 2023, is scheduled to conclude on October 2.
