The Ashanti Region branch of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has decided to cancel its planned closure of shops in the region.
This decision was reached following a meeting with the boss of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The traders in the Ashanti region had previously threatened to shut their shops for several days in protest against what they perceived as harassment by GRA and customs officials.
They also alleged that they were being charged exorbitant fees whenever they transported their goods, a situation they claimed was not present in other regions.
After discussions with the GRA, GUTA in the Ashanti Region opted not to proceed with their planned protest action.
