An 85-year-old woman in Enyan Ankukrom, located in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central Region, has been brutally attacked on suspicion of being a witch.

According to a report by Ghone News correspondent Yaw Boagyan, the victim, Abena Kyere, who resides in Enyan Ankukrom, was accused of witchcraft by a 55-year-old woman named Adwoa Adensa from the same community.

Adensa had persistently accused Kyere of practicing witchcraft and blamed her for the death of her son several years ago.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 28, 2023, when the accused, without provocation, began assaulting Kyere in her own home. Some family members intervened to rescue the elderly woman.

In an interview with the media, relatives of the victim expressed their concern, stating that the suspect had repeatedly threatened to harm the victim. They called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

The family members revealed that the suspect, who had recently arrived from Accra, had been engaging in conflicts with the victim since her arrival. However, they were unaware of any actual wrongdoing by the victim and only discovered that the suspect was accusing her of being a leader in witchcraft.

Meanwhile, residents of Enyan Ankukrom are living in fear and anxiety due to this unprecedented incident in their community. They are reluctant to venture out in the evenings, fearing that the suspect may still be lurking and pose a threat to anyone in the community.

They have called on the Inspector General of Police and the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District Police Command to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

Currently, the victim is receiving medical treatment in the emergency ward at the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District Hospital.

The Ajumako Enyan Essiam District Police Command, in collaboration with the Breman Nkwantanum Police Command, is actively searching for the suspect, who has fled the scene.
