The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Freda Prempeh, has called on Municipal Assemblies to impose surcharges on waste collectors who fail to promptly or adequately collect refuse in various communities.
She made this call during an inspection of areas along the Odaw River and Nima Maamobi following recent heavy rains.
Freda Prempeh expressed her disappointment with the poor state of sanitation in these areas and stressed the need for waste collectors to fulfill their obligations promptly.
Furthermore, the minister expressed her willingness to engage in discussions about the establishment of specialized environmental courts.
These courts, according to her, would focus on prosecuting sanitation-related offenses and are expected to enhance the efficiency of addressing sanitation issues in the country.
